Take a deposit or a part payment
Let a customer pay some now and the rest later, and keep track of what is still owed.
Where to find it Open this screen in Quid POS
How it works
When the amount you enter at checkout is less than the total, Quid records it as a part payment and keeps the ticket open. The ticket shows what has been paid and what is still due. When the customer pays the rest, the sale completes.
Take the first payment
- Ring up the items. It helps to attach the customer so you can find the ticket later. See Put a customer's name on a sale.
- Click CHECKOUT.
- In Amount Received, type what the customer is paying now, and choose how they paid.
- Click Complete.
The payment appears at the top of the panel, and the Amount Due drops to what is left. The ticket stays in your open tickets.
Take the rest later
- On the register, click the ticket button and choose the customer's ticket. See Serve several customers at once (open tickets).
- Click CHECKOUT. The amount still due is shown.
- Enter the payment and click Complete.
When nothing is left to pay, the sale is finished and moves to Transactions.
Tip
Give the ticket a clear name when you create it, such as the customer's name and what it is for. A list of ten open tickets all called "Ticket 004" is hard to work with.
Which should I use: a deposit, an order, or an account?
| Situation | Best tool |
|---|---|
| One purchase, paid in two or three parts | A deposit (this page) |
| Goods ordered now, collected and paid later | An order. See Quotes and orders: follow a deal from offer to sale |
| A regular customer who buys often and pays monthly | A customer account. See Sell on credit (customer accounts) |
