Plain-language meanings of the words used in Quid POS and in this help.
| Word | What it means |
|---|---|
| Account (customer) | An arrangement that lets a customer buy now and pay later. See Sell on credit (customer accounts). |
| Account ID | The number that identifies your business in Quid. Staff type it when logging in. |
| Add-on | An extra you can add to your plan, such as another register. |
| Adjustment | A small correction, to a payment or to a customer's balance, with a note saying why. |
| Average cost | What one unit of an item has cost you on average across your deliveries. See Cost, price and profit: how Quid works them out. |
| Balance | The amount a customer currently owes you. |
| Barcode | The striped label on a product, and the number under it. |
| Bill | A supplier's invoice for goods delivered to you. Entering it adds the goods to your stock. |
| Browser | The program you use to visit websites: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari. |
| Category | A group of items inside a Type. See Organise your items into groups (Types and Categories). |
| Checkout | The step where you take the customer's payment. |
| Cost | What you pay to buy one of an item. |
| Credit limit | The most you allow a customer to owe you. |
| Credit note | An amount you take off what a customer owes, for example for returned goods. |
| Deposit | A first part payment that holds goods or a booking for a customer. |
| Display Name | The short name of an item shown on the register button and the receipt. |
| Float | The cash you put in the drawer at the start of the day to give change. |
| Inventory | Your list of items for sale and how many of each you have. Also called stock. |
| Invoice | A document asking a customer to pay for goods, or showing that they did. |
| Item | One thing you sell: a product or a service. |
| Merchant Services | Quid's name for any payment you take outside Quid, such as on a card machine. |
| Modifier | A choice or extra on an item, such as a size. See Choices and extras on an item (modifiers). |
| Native currency | Your own money: the currency of your prices and reports. |
| On account | Paid later. The amount is added to the customer's balance. |
| Order | A sale the customer has agreed to but not yet collected or paid for. |
| Par | The stock level at which you want to reorder an item. |
| A document file that looks the same on every device and prints neatly. | |
| Permission | One thing a staff member is allowed to do. |
| PIN | A four-digit code for quick access. |
| Plan | What you pay for Quid, and what it includes. |
| Premium | A percentage added when a customer pays in foreign currency or by card. |
| Price level | One of up to five prices on an item, such as "Counter" or "Trade". |
| Profit | The selling price minus the cost. |
| Purchase order | Your written order to a supplier. |
| Quote | A written price offer to a customer. Nothing is sold yet. |
| Receipt | A slip showing what the customer bought and paid. |
| Referrer | Someone who sends customers to you and earns a commission. |
| Register | The selling screen. Also one till or checkout point. |
| Retail item | A physical product. |
| Role | A named set of permissions, such as "Cashier". |
| Service item | Work you do, rather than a product: delivery, installation, an appointment. |
| SKU | "Stock keeping unit": the item's ID number in your business. |
| Statement | A list of what one customer bought on account and paid, with the amount still owed. |
| Stocked | Marked as something you count. Quid tracks the quantity of stocked items. |
| Stock take | Counting what is really on your shelves. Quid calls it a Physical Inventory. |
| Subtotal | The total before tax. |
| Supplier | A business you buy stock from. |
| Taxable | An item that has sales tax added to it. |
| Team member | A staff member with their own login. |
| Ticket | One customer's sale while it is being rung up. |
| Till count | Counting the cash in the drawer. |
| Transaction | A finished sale. |
| Type | The largest group of items, like a department. |
| Void | To cancel a sale after it was completed. |
